Tibet Peace Rally Marathon Reaches Day Five on Ottawa–Toronto Route

DHARAMSALA, 28 Sept: The 7th Peace Rally Marathon for Tibet reached its fifth day on Sunday, with a five-member delegation completing another leg of their 450-kilometre run from Ottawa to Toronto to draw international attention to human rights in occupied Tibet.
Organised by Toronto Pemakopa Youth, the demonstration began on 23 September outside the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa and is slated to conclude on 1 October in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto.
The latest update from the organisers confirmed that Day 5 began in Kaladar and ended near Belleville, where the team was received by local Tibetan residents and non-Tibetan supporters.
Directed at the Canadian government and the broader international community, the marathon outlines three key demands: the repeal of Beijing’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, the protection of Tibet’s fragile environment—frequently designated as the “Third Pole” of the planet; and the immediate release of all Tibetan political prisoners.
The core team includes runners Pema Kunga, Dechen Wangdi, and Gyurme Tsultrim, alongside Kalden Wangchuk, who is serving as navigator, and Dawa Norbu Dayab, who is serving in a Triple capacity as driver, coordinator, and runner.
Prior to departing Ottawa, the delegation staged a demonstration outside the Chinese Embassy and met with Canadian Members of Parliament James Maloney and Karim Bardeesy at Parliament Hill. The team formally presented its petition to the lawmakers, urging them to raise the Tibetan cause during the ongoing parliamentary session. According to the organisers, the team also distributed more than 200 informational brochures to the public across the national capital region.
The runners will continue their trek toward Toronto over the next three days, with the 450-kilometre journey scheduled to conclude on 1 October.
