DHARAMSALA, 3 Feb: Himachal Pradesh Police on Monday arrested a Chinese national in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala – the residence of the Dalai Lama- for allegedly staying in India without a valid visa. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect previously served in the Chinese police.

DHARAMSALA, 28 Jan: The Election Commission(EC) of the Central Tibetan Administration, commonly referred to as the Tibetan government in exile, issued a warning letter to Dorjee, translator of the Nechung Oracle, for violating electoral rules and guidelines by making numerous political remarks in a clarification video with Tibet Radio regarding the oracle’s pronouncements on two Gelug spokespersons. The commission deemed the translator’s remarks as a risk to social unrest and the ongoing electoral process.

DHARAMSALA, 21 January: In an unprecedented ceremony marked by contradiction, the Gelug MPs of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) appeared for a mandated apology ceremony on Tuesday. While expressing remorse as instructed by the Nechung Oracle’s pronouncement, the MPs explicitly stated that they have never uttered ‘a single word’ of defamation against the Dalai Lama and never will, even at the cost of their lives.

DHARAMSALA 16 January: UK-based Tibetan organisations are set to participate in what may be the most significant—and potentially final—protest against the proposed Chinese embassy at Royal Mint Court in London. The protest will take place at the site on 17 January, ahead of the UK government’s expected approval of the controversial development on 20 January.

DHARAMSALA, 14 Jan: A Tibetan exile who recently reunited with family members from Lhasa in Nepal has learned of increasingly “harsh restrictions and surveillance measures” imposed in Tibet’s capital, Lhasa and the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). Ironically, the reunion itself carried significant risk as Kathmandu recently made it to the headlines with thousands of Chinese-supplied CCTV cameras monitoring streets and public spaces throughout the capital.

DHARAMSALA, 5 Jan: Smartvote Tibet, an online portal designed to help Tibetan voters identify their preferred Sikyong and Members of Parliament (MP) candidates for the 2026 Tibetan General Election, is now open to the public. The platform invites voters to respond to a series of questions and subsequently calculates a matching rate between voters and candidates based on the candidates’ responses to the same set of questions.
