DHARAMSALA, 20 March: The deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet continued throughout the last year, with China escalating its crackdown on Tibetans’ freedom of expression, religion, and belief, the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) declared in its 2023 Annual Report on the “Human Rights Situation in Tibet.” Presiding over the release this morning at their office in Dharamsala were Tenzin Dawa, TCHRD executive director, Phurbu Dolma, legal officer, and researcher Ngawang Lungtok.

DHARAMSALA, 13 March: The remaining business of the 6th Session of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPIE) reconvened today to discuss the work reports of the seven departments of the Central Tibetan Administration after it was adjourned and postponed due to a shortage of the required quorum in September 2023.

DHARAMSALA, 10 March: In commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising on March 10th, 1959, the leadership of the Tibetan government in exile, commonly referred to as the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), and Tibetans living in Dharamsala gathered at the courtyard of Tsuglag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj this morning.

DHARAMSALA, 10 March: Nepal has yet again denied permission for Tibetans to commemorate the Tibetan National Uprising Day, with the Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office calling on Tibetans to conduct prayers and ritual activities at home as usual. Meanwhile, the Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet, an organisation of former political prisoners of Tibet, has abstained for the second year in a row from co-organising a peace march from the main temple in McLeod Ganj to Kacheri in lower Dharamsala to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day with major NGOs based here in the exile headquarters of the Tibetan people.

DHARAMSALA, 8 March: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held a prayer service today in memory of the bravery and sacrifices made by Tibetans who rose up between 1987 and 1989 in protest against the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) colonial rule in Tibet at Tsuglag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj.

DHARAMSALA, 8 March: The President of the Tibetan government in exile, commonly referred to as the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Penpa Tsering, condemned the brutal crackdown by Chinese authorities on peaceful Tibetan protesters in Derge. He called for the immediate release of all Tibetans currently held under arrest, tibet.net, the official website of the CTA reported on Thursday.

DHARAMSALA, 26 Feb: The 9th International Conference of Tibet Support Group (TSG) concluded its three-day session held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on 25 February. Organised by the Tibet Interest Group from the European Parliament in partnership with the Belgium-based International Campaign for Tibet and facilitated by the Office of Tibet-Brussels and the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), over 170 members of TSG from 44 countries as well as heads of CTA attended the conference.

DHARAMSALA, 23 Feb: Tibetans in Dharamsala, the exile headquarters of the Tibetan people, rallied in solidarity with Tibetans in Derge County in the Traditional Tibetan province of Kham, who have been protesting peacefully against China’s construction of a dam along the Drichu River. The protest, coordinated by prominent Tibetan NGOs based here, aims to amplify the voices of Tibetans in Derge who face forced displacement from their ancestral land and other forms of repression from Chinese authorities.
