DHARAMSALA, 16 Oct: China has expedited its efforts to entirely replace the term ‘Tibet’ with “Xizang” in romanised Chinese. As per reports from Radio Free Asia (RFA) Cantonese, on Tuesday the Chinese media and the official account of the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), “United Front News,” has declared that “there is no more Tibet in the official documents of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

DHARAMSALA, 28 Sept: A Tibetan man named Tsultrim, originally from Amdo Ngaba in eastern Tibet, has reportedly been sentenced to two years in prison for possessing photos of the Dalai Lama, according to a report by Tibet Watch on Tuesday.

DHARAMSALA, 25 Aug: Highlighting the ongoing struggle for justice in Chinese-occupied Tibet, Gonpo Kyi, the sister of the imprisoned Tibetan philanthropist and businessman Dorjee Tashi, has reportedly been beaten by Chinese police once again.

DHARAMSALA, 24 Aug: A  former Tibetan political prisoner Sonam Gyalpo has passed away last Wednesday. According to multiple reports, the veteran Tibetan political prisoner in his 70s who spent over 16 years in Chinese prison breathed his last on 16 August 2023. 

DHARAMSALA, 23 Aug: Subjected to constantan surveillance, Tibetan language advocate and former political prisoner Tashi Wangchuk has been brutally thrashed by a group of unidentified, masked men at a hotel in Golok in eastern Tibet, while the apathy of the authorities-police and doctor- has forced him to spend a night on a stool in the hospital on Saturday.

A call for Beijing to use ‘Xizang’ instead of ‘Tibet’ in reference to the CCP’s demarcated Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) was raised by academics at the 7th International Tibetan Studies seminar held in Beijing from 14 -16 August, the CCP’s United Front Work Department reported according to the South China Morning Post report on Thursday.

DHARAMSALA, 7 Aug: The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 75 points new guidelines on religious activities, effective from 1 September, will have all places of worship within China mandatorily prioritise CCP’s leadership and its policies under the rubric of “sinicization”, reported Tibetan Review.
