DHARAMSALA, 15 July: The Chinese Communist Government on 12 July shut down the renowned Ragya Jigme Gyaltsen Nationalities Vocational High School in Golok, in the traditional Tibetan Province of Amdo, while on the same day, US President Joe Biden signed the historic Tibet Resolve Act into US law. In a video circulating online of the closing ceremony held at the school, teachers and pupils, both lay and ordained, can be seen crying and grieving over the forced closure of their school.

DHARAMSALA, 8 July: The high restrictions on the use of the Tibetan language on Douyin, China’s most popular short video app, have sparked questions and criticisms from Tibetan netizens. One Tibetan, Youga Ga, queried, “I question whether Douyin holds more power and authority than the nation and the legal system. Is Douyin more powerful than the state? What is the reality here?” in a video online a week ago. Another Tibetan netizen, in a video circulating online since Sunday, supported Youga’s accusation after his livestream too was stopped for using Tibetan.

DHARAMSALA, 22 April: Chinese authorities in Ngaba County in the Traditional Tibetan Province of Amdo have fired a Tibetan educator for teaching Tibetan language and History in Meruma Township in the region.

DHARAMSALA, 15 April: Atsok Gon Dechen Choekhorling Monastery, a 19th-century Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Amdo, and Tibetans living in the area are facing enforced relocation due to China’s construction of a hydropower dam on the Machu River that runs through it, reports RFA.

DHARAMSALA, 11 April: A manual, containing a list of 10 rules, including the ban on displaying the Dalai Lama’s photo in the event of his demise, has been distributed in monasteries in the Amdo region of Tibet by Chinese authorities, reported the RFA on 9 April.

DHARAMSALA, 10 April: Luktsang Palyon, a popular Tibetan-language blog in Tibet, has been shut down by the Chinese government for alleged copyright infringement, reports Radio Free Asia (RFA) on Monday. The administrator has filed a formal appeal with the authorities to restore it.

DHARAMSALA, 9 March: The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), a Dharamsala-based Tibetan advocacy group, reported on Monday that a Tibetan monk from Ngaba County in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo was detained incommunicado by the Chinese authorities on 26 March after staging a lone protest calling for the “Return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet” and “Religious Freedom in Tibet.”
