CTA marks 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
DHARAMSALA, 3 Oct: The Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) offered its profound tribute on the 153rd birth anniversary of India’s father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
A brief ceremony was held at the CTA headquarters here to offer floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi was attended by the CTA President Penpa Tsering, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Kalons(Ministers), Secretaries and senior officials of the CTA.
The President of the CTA Penpa Tsering offered his profound respect to Gandhi and declared that his legacy of nonviolence is still relevant.
“We offer profound tribute to Mahatma Gandhi & wish the people of India on the auspicious occasion of #GandhiJayant Gandhi Ji’s legacy of nonviolence is not only relevant but remains (an) eternal source of inspiration for nonviolent struggles across the world, including the Tibetans” President Tsering tweeted.
Addressing the media, he said that the Tibetan freedom movement under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is also unabatedly based on the same model.
He concluded by pledging to resort to non-violence as the only means to resolve the Sino-Tibet conflict.
Today also marks the International Day of Nonviolence, a day dedicated by the United Nations since 15 June 2007 to celebrate Gandhi’s invaluable contribution to the world.
