DHARAMSALA 8 April: The first ever Tibetan-language anthology film “State of Stateless: Tales from the Tibetan Diaspora” presented by Drung Tibetan Filmmakers’ collective, will be screening at Gold Cinema, Dharamsala on 18 and 19th April at 6:00 pm, according to a post by Drungfilms’ on its official Instagram account.

Drungfilms described the chance to screen the Tibetan film at GOLD Cinema, a leading cinema chain across India, as “a rare chance to experience Tibetan storytelling on the big screen” and encouraged Tibetans to come to watch the film that tells “powerful tales of the Tibetan diaspora through four beautifully crafted stories” from 18-19 April.

“Let’s come together to celebrate Tibetan stories, language and resilience.”

The Dharamshala-based Tibetan Filmmakers’ Collective’s announcement on Instagram met with a warm reception from Tibetan netizens as the post was shared across social media platforms multiple times.

“Wow. This is so exciting,” one comment read, while another added, “Woohoo!!! This is amazing.”

First of its kind, the film explores the multifaceted experience of displacement through four distinct stories directed by Tibetan filmmakers Sonam Tseten, Tenzing Sonam & Ritu Sarin, Tsering Tashi Gyalthang, and Tenzin Tsetan Choklay, who are themselves living in exile across various countries including India, America, and Vietnam.

It captures the complexity of statelessness through varied perspectives while highlighting their shared cultural resilience.

The film had its world premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival in October last year while it was also screened at the 13th edition of the Dharamshala International Film Festival held from 7- 10 November 2024.

The Tibetan feature film has also been selected to be screened at the 43rd Hawai’i International Film Festival to be held from 16-30 October 2025.
