19 Tibetan students bag Sikyong Scholarship
DHARAMSALA. 14 July: With 19 Tibetan students scoring above 95% in the All India Senior School Certificate Exam (AISSCE) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for class XII, the benchmark to receive the coveted Sikyong Scholarship, a jubilant President of Central Tibetan Administration, (CTA) Dr Lobsang Sangay has described the historical feat as ‘a major achievement.’
Though the Sikyong scholarship which carries RS 1 Lakh reward registered only 2 recipients from class 12 students from the CBSE board since its inception in 2012 and the scholarship received much censure over its practicability, President Sangay added that he believed otherwise.
“It did excite the students, teachers and staffs alike as they is a reward for excellence,” he said and added that “the scholarship has proven that if you reward the excellence, people will perform and live up to the expectations.”
He described the result, a major achievement achieved with the collective efforts of the CTA’s Education department under the dynamic leadership of Dr Pema Yangchen, school principals, teachers, staffs, students and parents.
The recipients of Sikyong Scholarship 2020 are 14 students from Mussoorie Tibetan Homes School, 2 from Sambhota Tibetan School, Mundgod, 1 from Central Tibetan School CST Herbertpur and 1each from TCV Selakui and TCV Suja.
Education Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen congratulated the19 distinguished students(7 boys and 12 girls) and described their feat as an encouragement and a benchmark for others who will sit for the board exam in the future.
Tibetans schools in India have achieved an overall pass percentage of 98.23%, which is 9.45% higher than the all India aggregate of 88.78% as the results were announced yesterday.
The overall pass percentage of the Tibetan schools have improved by 1.23% compared to the last year. Out of the 16 Tibetan schools that appeared for the CBSE class XII board exam, 10 Tibetan schools have secured 100 per cent pass percentage this year, last year the same feat was achieved by 8 schools.
A total of 1016 Tibetan students appeared for the exam in March this year, out of which 998 students passed the exam. Additionally, 91 students have scored above 90%.
