Paonta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement to host 27th GCM Gold Cup

DHARAMSALA, 28 March: Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) has announced Paonta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement as the host for the 27th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC/GCM) football tournament.

“TNSA is happy to announce Paonta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement as the host of the 2022 GCMGC to be held over 11th – 24th June,” TNSA has announced earlier today. 

The TNSA has further announced a slot of 16 teams for the tournament and called on clubs wishing to participate in the biggest sporting event of the Tibetan Community in exile to register by 15th April. 

GCM football tournament, the most prestigious tournament in the Tibetan community was first held in 1981 in memory of the late mother of the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Though the tournament was organized by various bodies for more than twenty years, TNSA took charge of organizing the tournament annually since 2003.

Based on the performance in the GCM tournament, TNSA selects players for the Tibetan National Team which occasionally competes in tournaments held in India as well as foreign countries.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) Global President Per-Anders Blind confirmed TNSA as the host of the first-ever CONIFA Women World Football cup in 2022.
