Raging Wildfire in Nyagchuka, Tibet, Continues to Spread

DHARAMSALA, 18 March: A wildfire that broke out on the evening of 15 March in Nyagchukha, Kham Kardze in Tibet, has led to the urgent evacuation of 1,360 households with 5,908 people, according to the latest news report from Khampa TV at 8 a.m. today.

DHARAMSALA, 16 March: At the “Assessing the PRC’s Assimilation Policies in Tibet” event, Uzra Zeya, the United States Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, condemned Beijing’s ‘Sinicization’ policies in Tibet. The event, hosted by the University of Ottawa and Canada Tibet Committee on 12 March, irked Chinese authorities, with a spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Canada calling it hyping up Tibet-related issues and spreading lies about Tibet, as stated on their official website on 14 March.

DHARAMSALA, 15 March: A Tibetan political prisoner named Ludup, 54 years old from Ngaba in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo was reportedly released from Chinese prison last month after serving a three-and-a-half year prison sentence for his participation in the 2008 Pan Tibetan uprising.
