DHARAMSALA, 1 Feb: A video widely circulating on social media shows Ladakhi nomads in a confrontation with several Chinese armies equipped with armoured vehicles. According to media reports, the incident occurred on January 2 in the Kakjung area of the Nyoma constituency, adjacent to the Chushul Valley in Ladakh close to China-occupied Tibet near the long-contested border between India and China— known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

DHARAMSALA, 1 Feb: At the third meeting of the 45th Session of the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), 20 countries, such as Australia, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US, expressed concern about China’s human rights violations in Tibet. They put forward 20 recommendations for China to improve its actions, such as allowing unfettered access to Tibet, releasing arbitrarily detained Tibetans, respecting the religious and cultural rights of Tibetans, and calling for the immediate abolition of colonel boarding schools in Tibet. 

DHARAMSALA, Jan 24: A total of 20 member states of the United Nations (UN) expressed concern over human rights violations in Tibet at the third meeting of the 45th Session of the working group on Universal Periodic Review where China underwent its fourth review.

DHARAMSALA 18 Jan: Tibetan rights groups anticipate that UN member states will engage in greater scrutiny of China’s human rights violations and adopt strong language on Tibet during the 45th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, scheduled to be held in Geneva from 22 January to 2 February 2024.
