COVID-19: CTA reports 25 new positive cases, vaccination programs to begin soon
DHARAMSALA, 8 Jan: Twenty-five exiled Tibetans in India have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past week, the Covid- 19 Task Force of the Central Tibetan Administration said.
“A total of 25 Tibetans; 4 from Dharamshala, 19 from Ladakh and one each from Bylakuppe and Dekyiling Tibetan settlement have tested positive for the COVID-19 in the last week,” Dr Tsering Tsamchoe said during the committee’s weekly briefing.
The tally of exiled Tibetans in India and Nepal now stands at 1,473 positive cases till date, 44 active cases, 1,392 recoveries and 37 deaths.
The committee further informed that 316 Tibetans from India and Nepal were under quarantine. Of the lot, 113 were under home quarantine while 203 are under institutional quarantine facilities.
Tenzin Kunsang, the Deputy Secretary of CTA’s Health Department who addressed the briefing said that COVID-19 vaccination program will start soon with assistance from the Indian Government.
However, she called on Tibetans to exercise continued caution by following guidelines issued by the health authorities and Government of India, by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing without any lapses although the cases seem to have dropped within the Tibetan community.
Further, she urged Tibetans to be cautious and follow the guidelines issued by the state government over reports of bird flu in Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
