Education Department announces assistance to students stranded in Indian cities due to coronavirus lockdown
DHARAMSALA, 24 April: The Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) has announced its financial assistance to Tibetan college students stranded in Indian cities due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
The Education Kalon(Minister) of the CTA, Dr Pema Yangchen announced relief money of one million rupees- Rs 5000 for 200 college students- stranded in cities due to the lockdown on Thursday.
The Minister directed students in need of financial assistance to cover their rent and essential expenses to contact Sonam Sangmo, Head of Scholarship and Sponsorship desk at 9882322797 and Tenzin Samdup at 7018111983 to avail the relief.
“Applicants need to fill-up the form issued by the depart attached with supporting letter from local student association or regional TYC in absence of the former and submit it before April 30,” she added.
Dr Pema Yangchen further announced a relief of Rs 2000 for over 297 high school students belonging to financially disadvantaged homes so they can equip themselves with internet services and access the resources online.
As online teaching has become the new norm with schools shut due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister appraised on their efforts in conducting daily online classes for class 6- 8 on Tibet TV, availability of online learning resources on its reinvigorated website and its dedicated Youtube Channels for the benefit of the students.
