Pokhra FC wins Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup-2014

DHARAMSALA, June 16: Pokhra FC, the Tibetan team from Nepal clinched this year’s Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC or GCM) after beating Dhondupling, Clement Town 2-0 in the final match held on Sunday.

The highest scorer, Pokhra FC’s Norbu Dorjee was awarded the Player of the Tournament as he led his team to the prestigious title with nine goals in five matches. Mundgod Doeguling was presented with the Fair Play Award.

A total of 21 teams participated in this year’s tournament held from June 4-15 in Clement Town Tibetan Colony in Dehradun.

GCM football tournament, the most prestigious tournament in the Tibetan community was first held in 1981 in memory of the late mother of the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Though the tournament was organized by various bodies for more than twenty years, Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) took charge of organizing the tournament annually since 2003.

Based on the performance in the GCM tournament, TNSA selects players for the Tibetan National Team which occasionally competes in tournaments held in India as well as foreign countries.
