Sharon Stone gets Nobel Peace Summit Award from His Holiness

DHARAMSALA, Oct 25: Hollywood actress, Sharon Stone of the 1992 thriller, Basic Instinct fame was presented with the Nobel Peace Summit award by the Tibetan Spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Oct 23 at the 13th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates held at the National Opera Warsaw, Poland.

Stone, 55 was honoured with the award for ‘activities that brought solidarity and new hope to the millions of people who have fought and are fighting against the tragedy of HIV/AIDS,’ reported the Daily Mail.

She has worked closely with U.S. charity amFAR – the Foundation for AIDS Research – and has vowed to act as a campaign chairman for them until a safe and effective vaccine is developed.

Recalling the death of her friend and acting coach Roy London which led her to fight against the disease, she said: “I especially miss Roy; his memory is an enduring reminder that heartache can be transformed into action, which in turn brings hope and, ultimately, life.”

Previously, the award has been given to Sean Penn, Bono, George Clooney and Don Cheadle.
