Assam Flood: CM thanks Dalai Lama for his concern, donation towards relief and rescue efforts

DHARAMSALA, 27 June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has thanked the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama after the latter “expressed concern about the unprecedented rainfall and flooding in Assam that has led to extensive loss of life, the devastation of property and displaced millions of people and for his donation towards the relief and rescue efforts.

“Assam is humbly feeling blessed at His Holiness @DalaiLama expressing concerns at the ravaging floods in Assam and the hardships it is causing. He has graciously sent his blessings,” the Chief Minister has said in a tweet.

Thanking the Dalai Lama for his contribution towards relief and rescue efforts, he has added that “Assam Government is so grateful to Gaden Phodrang Trust of The Dalai Lama for having donated Rs 10 lakh.”

According to media reports, though there is some improvement in the flood situation, the catastrophic deluge has resulted in the loss of 134 lives and affected the lives of 21.52 lakh people across 28 districts. As many as 1,91,194 people have taken shelter in 538 relief camps.
