BIG ISSUE’S DALAI LAMA COVER AND WRITER ADAM FORREST WIN TOP MAGAZINE AWARDS
The Big Issue enjoyed more awards success at the PPA Scotland magazine awards, winning best Feature Writer and Cover of the Year.
The Big Issue toasted an early festive treat last night at a magazine awards bash in Edinburgh, winning two top prizes to round off a successful 2015.
Big Issue writer Adam Forrest was named Feature Writer of the Year, with judges praising Adam’s “world class” writing as “lively and topical, presented with clarity and a real lightness of touch”.
This category also boasted our writer James Campbell, who has been keeping an extraordinary diary of his time sleeping rough in Edinburgh after falling homeless earlier this year.
Meanwhile, our striking Dalai Lama cover (pictured) was picked as Cover of the Year. Judges said our cover – which featured a photograph taken exclusively for The Big Issue by Louise Haywood-Schiefer – was “simple yet provocative; a bold image and direct cover line to challenge the reader”.
Exclusive – Dalai Lama interview: “I am a refugee.”
The magazine was nominated for five awards in total at the PPA Scotland event. The awards recognise magazines that are produced in Scotland – where The Big Issue, that is sold across Britain, has its editorial base.
This comes towards the end of a great year for The Big Issue, with our unforgettable Remembrance cover featuring Sergeant Rick Clement also being named as British Cover of the Year at the prestigious PPA Awards in London in July.
