Tibetan schools outperform Indian schools at XII board exam with overall pass percentage of 97%

DHARAMSALA, 6 May: Tibetan schools perform better than Indian schools at the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for class XII.

Tibetans schools in India have achieved an overall pass percentage of 97%, which is 13.6% higher than the all India aggregate of 83.4% as the results were announced on 2 May, three weeks before the usual schedule following a Delhi High Court order to complete the process before the undergraduate admissions begin.

The overall pass percentage of the Tibetan schools have improved by 1.44 compared to last year and out of the 17 Tibetan schools that appeared for the CBSE class XII board exam, eight Tibetan schools – TVC School Selakui, TCV School Suja, STS Bylakuppee, THF Mussoorie, TCV Upper, CST Kalimpong, STS Poanta Sahib and TNMF Clement town – have secured 100 percent pass percentage this year.

A total of 1133 Tibetan students appeared for the exam in March this year, out of which 1100 students passed the exam, 5 students failed and 28 students appeared under compartment category (failed in one subject).

Although the number of failed and compartment students have significantly decreased from last year, no Tibetan student has secured 95%, the benchmark for the Sikyong Scholarship.

Since the announcement of the scholarship in 2012, it registered only only two recipients, both from arts stream; Tenzin Chokyi, a girl from THF Mussoorie, who scored 95.4% in 2013 and Tenzin Damdhul, a student from TCV Suja arts, with 95.8% in 2015.

The toppers of the 2019 Class XII AISSCE exam are as follows:

Science: Phuntsok Dawa with 94% from TCV Selakui

Commerce: Longrig with 89.6% from TCV Bylakuppee

Arts: Tenzin Gangtso with 92% from STS Bylakuppe

The recipients of the Ganden Gaden Phodrang Award 2019 are:

Science Stream: Phuntsok Dawa with 94% from TCV Selakui, Lhamo Tsering with 91% from THF Mussoorie and Tsering Lhamo with 90.8% from TCV Selakui.

Commerce stream: Longrig with 89.6%, Tsering Dekyi with 88.2% and Kalsang Rinchen with 85.2 % all from TCV Bylakuppe.

Arts Stream: Tenzin Gangtso with 92% from STS Bylakuppe Sonam Dickyi with 89.6% from THF Mussoorie, Tenzin Tsomo from STS Mundgod and Tenzin Namgyal from THF Mussoorie with 87.8% each.

Around 13 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 examination conducted by the CBSE and out of which 10,05,427 passed the exam.

Shashank Nag from DAV Public School in Panvel with 98.8%, Tanya Agarwal and Urwana Dewan from R.N. Podar School both with 97.4% and Shifa Thokan from Delhi Public School in Nerul with 98.2% were the all-India toppers in science, commerce and arts streams respectively.
