TIPA to host International Conference on Tibetan Performing Art to mark its Diamond jubilee
DHARAMSALA, 15 May: Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts(TIPA) in Dharamsala to organise an International conference on Tibetan performing arts.
“TIPA will organise the international conference to mark its Diamond jubilee,” the President of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) Dr Lobsang Sangay announced yesterday at a press conference accompanied by the institute’s Director Ngawang Younten.
The premier arts school in exile that promotes and preserves a wide repertoire of musical, dance and theatrical traditions of Tibet will mark its 60th anniversary later this year in October.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will grace the opening event of the International Conference on Tibetan performing arts and unveil the new auditorium of the TIPA.
The conference will be held at TIPA over 28 to 31 October later this year, 19 scholars from overseas and 9 Tibetan scholars from India, Nepal and Bhutan will attend the conference and present their research papers on Tibetan art and culture.
To celebrate its achievement in preservation and promotion of traditional performing arts of Tibet over the last six decades, TIPA has partnered with Tibetan Policy Institute to organise the conference under the supervision of Tashi Tsering Josayma, Tibetologist and Director of Amnye Machen Institute.
TIPA will also present an honorary award to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 28 Oct and the conference will be attended by over 125 TIPA alumni of which 100 are from overseas while the rest are from India and Nepal according to the TIPA’s Director.
Founded by the Dalai Lama on 11 August 1959 to preserve and promote Tibetan musical heritage and arts, TIPA is among the very first Tibetan institutions set up in exile by the Tibetan spiritual leader. The institute is headquartered in Dharamsala, the exile headquarter.
