14th Administrative Conference of Tibetan Settlement Officers begins
DHARAMSALA, 9 Nov: The President of the Central Tibetan Administration today called for special efforts from the Tibetan Settlement Officers(TSO) to collect statistical data of Tibetans in their respective settlements.
“The 16th Kashag considers statistics of Tibetans very important to provide accurate, timely, and credible information for its current and future policies,” Penpa Tsering, the President of the CTA said at the inauguration of the 14th Administrative Conference of TSO.
The CTA President spoke about the need for a standard population survey and further expressed concern over the lack of statistics on disability and mental health within the community and urged the TSO to hold in-depth discussions and deliberations about the issues faced by the Tibetans across settlements at the 3-day conference to attend to the welfare of the public.
He further spoke about his administration’s “intend to survey the factual poverty population across Tibetan settlements in India, Bhutan and Nepal.”
TSO or representatives from around 44 Tibetan Settlements across India, Nepal and Bhutan have gathered for the conference organised by the Department of Home which is being held over 9-11 Nov at the Sikyong hall here at the Central Tibetan Secretariat.
Speaking about the agenda of the conference, Home Secretary Tsewang Dolma Shosur said that the TSO will discuss and deliberate on the 12 agendas proposed by 16th Kashag at the meet.
