Official anniversary to mark 62nd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day
DHARAMSALA, 10 March: Today marks sixty-two years since we lost our country and 62 years of Chinese brutality and relentless sufferings inflicted on Tibetans, said the President of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Dr Lobsang Sangay.
President Sangay made the remarks in his address at the official anniversary to mark the 62nd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day.
The political head of the Tibetan people further credited the Dalai Lama, the octogenarian Tibetan spiritual leader who devolved his political responsibilities to an elected figure for making the Tibet issue one of the most important issues in the world and declared that the “responsibility now befalls on us Tibetans to preserve,” that he called is the easier part.
“Unprecedented in history, His Holiness had graciously consented to live over113 years. For this to materialise, we must follow his advises as it depends on the bond between the Guru(teacher) and his disciple,” he added.
President Sangay who is at the tail end of his second term in office further called for unity and cohesion among Tibetans and urged Tibetans to exercise their right to vote based on the political merit of candidates.
President of CTA, Dr Lobsang Sangay and Speaker Pema Jungney read statements of the Kashag and Tibetan parliament respectively. Both the Tibetan leaders reiterated the Tibetan administration’s firm stand and commitment to peacefully resolve the issue of Tibet through ‘Middle Way Approach’; urged the Chinese government to enter into a peaceful Sino-Tibetan negotiation on the issue of Tibet and thanked friends of Tibet and the Tibetan people from the past and present across the world for their continued and unequivocal support for the issue of Tibet.
The commemorative event usually held at the courtyard of Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in Mcleod Ganj- attended by hundreds of Tibetans and supporters- was moved to the Sikyong hall at the Central Tibetan Secretariat here in Gangchen Kyishong owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and had in attendance President Sangay and his Cabinet Ministers(Kalons) along with the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the standing committee members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Tibetan Justice Commissioners and secretaries of the CTA departments and heads of major Tibetan NGOs.
The Central Tibetan Administration’s official anniversary function is held to pay tribute to the Tibetan martyrs who lost their lives in the March 10, 1959 Uprising in Lhasa, the Tibetan capital as well as all those Tibetans who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.
