‘Tsering’s sacrifice will not go waste’

DEHRADUN, Mar 6: Tibetan youngsters here who attended a prayer function held in memory of Dorjee Tsering, a 16-year-old Mussoorie student who breathed his last on March 3 in a Delhi hospital after setting himself ablaze last week, said Tsering’s sacrifice for ‘Free Tibet’ will not go waste. The function was held at Doonga house in the Doon valley on Sunday. Tsering had set himself afire in a Tibetan settlement at Herbertpur in Dehradun district last week. His funeral was held on Sunday in Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh). At the prayer session, not just Tsering but Kalsang Wangdue, an 18-year-old who had also immolated himself on February 29 in Tibet, the same day as Tsering, and other martyrs were remembered.

Those who gathered lit candles paying them obeisance. The prayer session was organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) and Regional Tibetan Women Association in the evening. Speaking to TOI, president, RTYC, Dekyiling, Dehradun, Tenzin Tsukpe said, “Uttarakhand and specifically Doon valley has a huge Tibetan population and many of them are youngsters. Though instances like these are disturbing, the youth from the region continue wishing for a free Tibet although they call Doon their second home.
