Clementown crowned champion of the inaugural Tibetan women’s basketball tournament against TB

DHARAMSALA, 7 July:  Dhondupling(Clementown) team was crowned the champion of the maiden Tibetan women’s basketball tournament against tuberculosis.

Dhondupling(Clementown) team defeated the Kathmandu team from Nepal in the final match of the tournament held at Gangchen Kyishong Basketball ground here in Dharamsala at the Tibetan Secretariat.

The final match of the tournament was played on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 84th Birthday. The score read 30: 25 in Dhondupling’s favour.

The champion and the runners up team were awarded trophies and cash prizes of forty thousand and thirty thousand rupees respectively.  Otso, jersey number 11 from Dhondupling team was declared the MVP of the tournament and Suja team was adjudged the fair play team of the tournament, they were awarded two thousand five hundred rupees each.

The sporting event titled, ‘1st Tibetan women’s Basketball Tournament against tuberculosis’ is jointly organized by the Health Department of Central Tibetan Administration and Tibetan National Sports Association with an objective to raise awareness about tuberculosis in particular and general health at large within the Tibetan community in exile. The tournament has been generously funded by the Dalai Lama’s Charitable trust.

Three teams from Dharamsala, one each from Nepal, Bylakuppee, Clementown and Suja are participating in the tournament held over 2-6 July.
